Scouts from 8th Tynemouth took part in an archaeological dig today with WallQuest Hadrian’s Wall in Wallsend.
Many buckets of coal, soil and clay were moved from the site as we helped to uncover more of the Roman baths. Amongst the dirt we found several items including:
- Pieces of clay tobacco pipes
- Animal bones
- Various metal objects
- Roof tiles
- …and what we believe is a tree fossil
After lunch we dug deeper through the clay and unearthed an old industrial drain that will need to be logged before it can be removed, allowing further excavation towards the Roman finds.
The Scouts involved had a fantastic time helping at the dig today and would like to thank those at WallQuest for allowing us to get involved.
Some more photos from our day, including some of our finds can be found on The Gallery.
